Wrapping Up Warm This Winter

Over the past 12 months I have about a stone in weight. Personally, I’m not sure how. If I’m being honest I haven’t been trying particularly hard to do so but with one thing and another going on in our personal lives we’ve had quite a bit of stress. This has impacted upon my health over the course of the past year and it’s this I believe has been the reason for my weight loss.

Fast forward to now and my winter coat is huge on me. I’ve had it the last 2 years and I lost about 1/2 stone last year too. My coat has got to be 2/3 sizes too big. I don’t know about you but I usually buy my winter coat a size bigger so I can add layers underneath. Living by the sea this is essential as the wind off the sea and from the other direction off the hill can be bitter this time of year.

After much searching I finally decided on a smart red coat from Next. All I needed now was a new scarf and gloves.

I found some lovely black gloves in a independent clothes and accessories store called Polly in Aberystwyth. They have 3 shops in the town selling all sorts of quirky clothes, footwear, jewellery and accessories. They have some lovely classic pieces of jewellery that stand out and brighten up a plain black dress. The one store has some fabulous chunky silver pieces which are all very reasonably priced at under £30. It’s where I got this necklace from:

Now on to the scarf. I wanted something individual, something that would stand out. Whilst back in the Midlands at the beginning of the month I has some tea one afternoon when a friend came round and I made it in a tea pot. I think tea tastes so much better made in a tea pot but when there is just one of you its a lot of faffing. I own a few tea pots and I git this one out that afternoon.

When I was looking at yarn a couple of days later the pink, green and blue combo kept coming back to me. The tone of the colours seemed so relaxing. After much squishing of yarn I settled on these 6 colours from Rowan in a will Cotton blend: 93EE4F83-4347-4AAF-82BB-D580EE9AC3EE

As we were on our way home and I had a 3 1/4 hour train ride ahead I also picked up a 3.5mm hook to start the scarf on the journey home.
IMG_5405 There was much chatting going on whilst on the train and I didn’t get as much done as I would have liked but I managed to make the first of 10/11 granny squares.  IMG_5455

Just loving this project so much already.

Love that red coat. There is something so special about the right red coat and boots too I find. Wish I had your creative talents. I never quite live up to the fantasy me in my head.

All the articles in this post are utterly gorgeous. But my favourite has to be the wool. Am just restarting my crocheting, so am well impressed by the granny square.

I wish I was crafty enough to make my own scarf. It already looks amazing. I was looking for a scarf for my husband the other day and I found a nice one in TK Maxx. It was £68! For a scarf! I almost died!
